Highly regarded Legal 100 firm, is seeking a Risk & Compliance Manager to oversee their compliance function. The role will be based in their Brighton office with hybrid working. As the Risk and Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing risk management policies and procedures, while providing general risk and compliance-related advice to the firm.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Supervising and training the Risk and Compliance Assistant.
- Developing and implementing risk management policies and procedures.
- Serve as the main contact for professional indemnity insurers regarding claims, keeping records and conducting investigations.
- Processing payments and maintaining a central record of claims-related transactions.
- Keeping Root Cause Analysis records up to date to comply with Law South Risk & Compliance Standards.
- Address and analyse complaints against the firm for the Management Team.
- Assist in managing escalated complaints with the SRA or Legal Ombudsman and act as Liaison Officer during SRA inspections.
- Guide fee earners on professional conduct, including conflicts of interest and ethics.
- Work with Group Heads to identify weaknesses and improve practices to enhance the firm's risk profile.
- Delivering training on risk-related matters and keeping updated on changes in professional conduct rules.
- Conducting audits for compliance with internal policies and assisting in developing risk management plans.
- Maintaining the Confidential Register of Interests and coordinating the Lexcel accreditation process.
- Ensuring engagement letters and website changes comply with Law Society and SRA regulations.
- Completing annual professional indemnity insurance proposals.
- Monitoring compliance with the Solicitors Code of Conduct and assisting with due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
- Training staff on revised policies after mergers and providing information on claims for tenders.
- Assisting groups with client file requests and queries from other law firms or government departments.
Required Experience:
- Previous experience in similar role at a law farm
- Strong understanding of risk management across a law firm
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of professional indemnity insurance, and good awareness and understanding of other classes of insurance.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the SRA Code of Conduct Rules, and other SRA Standards and Regulations such as the Indemnity Insurance rules and the Legal Ombudsman scheme.
- Awareness and understanding of Money Laundering legislation, Data Protection legislation, Criminal Finances Act 2017, Bribery Act 2010, Financial Services and Markets Act.
