Assistant In-house Commercial Counsel

ASSISTANT IN-HOUSE COMMERCIAL COUNSEL - NEWCASTLE

Are you a qualified legal professional with a passion for commercial law? This role offers the chance to become an integral part of an established in-house legal team within a progressive and highly driven Newcastle law firm, focusing on commercial aspects and supplier agreements.

Working closely alongside the In-House General Counsel based out of Newcastle, you will engage with a variety of tasks, from reviewing supplier contracts and software licences to handling framework agreements and tender documents. The role also offers the chance to delve into broader legal and regulatory topics, including SRA compliance, financial crime, and data protection.

Other responsibilities include:
- Reviewing commercial documents to identify and mitigate legal and commercial risks, including negotiations and occasional drafting.
- Ensuring data protection compliance across the firm, manage breaches, and handle data subject access requests.
- Advising on commercial agreements and risk matters.
- Building strong relationships across all departments and working side by side with key stakeholders and heads of department
- Producing guidance and procedures to anticipate and mitigate risks.
- Serving as a focal point for legal queries across the firm.

The team is involved in a wide range of projects and initiatives, offering ample scope for professional development and the opportunity to explore areas of personal interest within the legal field.

The successful candidate will be:

- Qualified legal professional with excellent knowledge of commercial/contract law.
- Experienced in reviewing and advising on data provisions within contracts.
- Have a high attention to detail and at least 1-4 years' experience as a commercial lawyer.
- Have a strong knowledge of SRA standards, guidance, and regulations.
- Possess excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to balance a pragmatic and commercial approach in a highly regulated sector
- Have a strong interest in data protection compliance and AI.
